Paranoid of getting HIV

Dear Ask The Doctor: Hello Doctor. I am here to ask a question related to HIV transmission. Is it possible to contract this virus from a partner who doesn't have a family history of hiv? She did have a boyfriend before, but it was 3 years ago and as of now, she is alright. She never had sex with her exboyfriend and is still in fact a virgin. She is my first girlfriend and I never had sex with anyone either. We did play around, our genitals touched and the tip of my penis went inside. Forgive me for asking something like this, but is it possible for me or her to contract HIV with the information I've given you?

Dear Michael: The HIV is a sexual transmitted disease and you contract it from having  unprotected sex with an infected individual, it is not a hereditary disease (“family history”), so in the view you stated that your girlfriend does not have antecedents of high risk sexual behaviors (having unprotected sexual intercourse with an infected person or a person with HIV status unknown, multiple partners or sharing needles or syringes with an infected person), you have nothing to worry about while stay in a monogamous relationship. Always keep in mind that engaging in high risk sexual behaviors can get you HIV.
