patient should go to the ER if there is no Urinary Output in 24 hours

Dear Ask The Doctor: My 80 year old mom has dementia and she hasen't weed or pooed for 3 days what should i do

Dear Alis: Without knowing anything further about your mom, my level of concern is high. While frequency of bowel movements can vary, frequency of urinary output should not.

All persons should go to the ER if there is no Urinary Output in any 24 hour period.  Urine is required to cleanse the body of toxins. If urine is not being excreted, the toxins are accumulating in your body and need to be removed through dialysis urgently.
