Coronary angioplasty - missed medication - is it ok?

Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi i have just had angioplasty operation on 7 dec 2011.i was given adizem tablets to take daily but the chemist i use did not get my repeat prescription,is it ok to take my adizem tablet when i get them tomorrow.i will be taking it about 6 hours later than i usually do.

Dear Peter: Adizem is a calcium-channel blocker used in the treatment of hypertension and angina. The medication works by slowing down the rate at which the heart beats and it allows the blood vessels in the body to widen. Slowing the heart rate also reduces the energy used by the heart to pump blood around the body. This in turn reduces the heart's need for oxygen. I would suggest that you take the drug as advised by your doctor for it to show an effect. I wish you well, take care.
