Dear Ask The Doctor: I weigh 105lbs, I'm 5ft 6, and my bmi is 16.8. Eversince I was 14, I've been up and down weights. I've always had a problem with my body image, and always thought I was fat. I started stopping eating breakfast and recently lunch and snacks. Now the thought of puttting on weight absolutly terrifies me. I weigh myself 3 times a day, I measure myself a lot, and I stand in the mirror about 10 times aday telling myself I'm fat and pulling at it. When my parents make me eat, I throw it up. The maximum I eat is 600 calories. Everynight I go to my gym in the garden, and burn it all off, even if it gets late I HAVE TO. Most of the time I burn off more than I've eaten. And now I sometimes get really shakey, cold, pass out, bloated, stomach aches and cramp. Everyone tells me I have a problem, do I?
Dear Michaela: Your BMI, height and weight indicates that you are underweight, and based on the description mentioned above, you seem to suffer from anorexia nervosa. The symptoms you have started to experience, also seem to be due to improper diet and reduced energy in your body. You should consult your doctor or a psychologist for counselling and management of your obsession and eating disorder.
