Symptoms due to anxiety or thyroid disorder?

Dear Ask The Doctor: I want to make this short as posible. 3 month ago I started to having trouble breathing. I paniked and went to the ER, they did EKG, blood work and a chest X-ray. Couldnt find anything and they wrote it up as a just a simple panic attack and put me on Frontin same as Xanax. I took around 30x0.25mg in 3 month and it isnt helping. Now I got a few other symptomps wich come and go. dull pain under my collar bone hoarsness in voice and dry cough when I have a so called attack mild head pressure, the fee feeling like spaced out high bloodpreasure 140 with 95 vertigo dizziness The symptomps come and go, they are worst at night and I feel better in the morning. My question is can this be anxiety or something else. I feel like something is causing my anxiety and its just a symptom and not the main problem. I just moved in a new country and I dont have medical insurance yet only for emergencys that is why I am asking first and then go to another doctor. Thank you I just moved in a new country and I dont have medical insurance yet only for emergencys that is why I am asking first and then go to another doctor. Thank you

Dear Fabian: I do understand your concern regarding your symptoms and not being under medical coverage. From your history, it is likely that you have a generalised anxiety disorder but other condition may need to be ruled out. The appearance of newer symptoms (hoarseness of voice, dry cough, headaches and increased blood pressure) could also be due to an underlying thyroid disorder. Since your symptoms are getting worse and Frontin (alprazolam) is not working in your case, I would advise a thyroid workup and maybe a change to medication, as it is not advisable to take frontin for a long period of time due to the development of drug dependence. Drugs like Buspirone or SSRI's may be helpful in these cases. You should also try mechanisms of pyschotherapy, relaxation therapy, densititization as well as yoga which have shown to be helpful in decreasing the symptoms of anxiety.
