Dear Ask The Doctor: I have been prescriped valium for around 30 yees now my doctro has stopped and switched me to xananax will i have withdrawls from valium im scared Dear Sheila: Your doctor may have switched your medication to an equivalent dose of xanax, as compared to valium, in order to avoid any withdrawal reactions. This equivalent dose is supposed to be 1mg of xanax for 20mg of valium. If you choose to stop taking the medication completely, you need to slowly taper off the dose to avoid any unpleasant withdrawal symptoms.
