I would still suggest you see your family doctor so your concerns can be directed to the right path. It seems to me you have a specific phobia for vomiting and this has affected your daily living in a way. This phobia of yours has already affected your sleep and continuous sleep deprivation may lead to decreased functioning capacity during the day, poor memory and concentration, decreased appetite, etc. You have fulfilled some of the criteria for a specific phobia disorder (exposure to stimulus provokes an anxiety response or panic attack, you recognize that this fear is unreasonable, the situation is endured with anxiety or distress). If you feel this phobia has affected your normal routine and social functioning, then, most likely, you do have a phobia disorder. Once you see your doctor, you may also request for thyroid tests (since thyroid problems can cause these symptoms too e.g. can’t sleep, nervousness). I think it is also reasonable to elucidate why you are having nausea symptoms at night. I am also suspecting you also have reflux disease (backflow of acid from stomach to esophagus, which may reach the throat and mouth and can cause nausea too). Reflux symptoms are worse at night because when lying down, it will be easier for the acid to backflow (as compared to standing up) and acid production also peaks at night. It could also be a concurrent condition, since stress and anxiety also increases acid production. Bottomline is, you need to see a doctor in person so you can be completely assessed and evaluated. I do hope this helps and take care always. |
