Dear Ask The Doctor: I have found out that my daughter has now started to inhale her anxiety meds (xanax i think) in order for it to take effect faster. She has started picking at her skin - her face is almost completely covered with scabs. she picks at the hair on her legs too and has scabs there. is this because of her inhaling her meds?
Dear Ruth: Although the side effects of xanax (alpazolam) are mild, there may be adverse effects related to higher dosages. These may include drowsiness, fatigue, slurring of speech, tremors, aggression, mania, hallucination and restlessness.
You may have to show your daughter to her physician and check the drug levels and gradually lower it in-case it is raised. Long term use of alprazolam may lead to drug dependence and withdrawal from the drug may lead to the symptoms becoming worse. |
