Dear Ask The Doctor: I'm a 16 year old female. I was watching television yesterday and got a sudden stabbing pain in my lower right abdomen. It was quite sore but not unbearable. It has been this way for the past 24 hours, it's really uncomfortable because it comes and goes. It really hurts however when I try to pee! Could you possibly tell me what this could be, thanks!
Dear Anon: There are several cause of right lower abdominal pain. Appendicitis, muscular strain, constipation, pelvic inflammatory disease, urinary tract infection or an ovarian cyst may all cause similar symptoms. You can try taking over the counter pain killer to relieve the pain. If the medicines do not help or the pain gets worse, you may need to consult your doctor for an examination, blood-work, pregnancy test and an ultrasound to make a definite diagnosis. |
