Do I have Chronic Appendicitis?

Dear Ask The Doctor: I've had my doctor diagnose me with a chronic appendix. I get all the symptoms, except the fever and diahrrea. It comes and goes every 1 to 2 months. He says as long as I can manage the pain with medication, food and exercise, I don't necessarily need surgery. Is there some way I can convince him to have the surgery, or should I get a second opinion?

Dear Jolene: There is much debate and controversy whether a condition such as Chronic Appendicitis exist. Regardless of the type of appendicitis, whether chronic or acute, the conditions are best treated by surgical removal of the appendix. i recommend getting a second opinion and if the diagnosis of chronic appendicitis is confirmed then having your appendix removed.
