Appendicitis: Signs, Symptoms and Other Conditions that Mimics it

Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi I have had pain in my right side of my tummy for a few weeks now however it as got worse each day. It started of as a water infection but my dr thought it was the start appendicities this pain has got worse and worse and today i am in pain. I do not want to keep going back to my drs or the hospital for them to tell me to go home Can you advise if it could be appendicitis Other symptoms i have are loss of appetite, nausea, light headed

The typical order of symptoms in appendicitis is abdominal pain on the periumbilical area (around the belly button) which later transfers to the lower right side of the abdomen. Other common signs and symptoms are nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite and fever. Patients may only have some, not all, of these typical signs and symptoms. It is possible that you have appendicitis. However, since you are a female of reproductive age, other diseases that can cause R sided lower abdominal pain are ovarian torsion (the ovary twisting upon itself), and in sexually active females, ectopic pregnancy. Other causes are inflammation of the intraabdominal lymph nodes and/or reproductive organs, and also intestinal inflammation, among others. I strongly suggest you see a doctor urgently to reassess your condition. It is very alarming that your abdominal pain has been going on for weeks and worsening. I hope this helps.
