Dear Ask The Doctor: Is a electrophysilology study enough to rule out Long QT Syndrome
Dear Bill: Long QT syndrome is a condition which invloves the electrical rythymic system of the heart and is classified as a cardiac arrythymia leading to palpitations, fainting and sudden death and thus an electrophysiological study would be one of the best ways to diagnose this. An electrophysiological study is a test in which electrodes are inserted into the heart via catheterisation and the cardiac electrical system is studied. Another way of diagnosing a Long QT syndrome is simply through an ECG. |
