Causes of dizziness and heart palpitations

Dear Ask The Doctor: I am 27 year old female . I have low BP and HR. Sometimes I feel dizzy and frequently have heart palpitations. What can be causing this?

Dear Amber: Your symptoms may be related to your low blood pressure and heart rate. Low blood pressure would typically be normal in some people and may cause dizziness in others. Also the heart palpitations could be because of some rythymic disturbance in the heart and due to your low heart rate which normally ranges from 60-100 beats per minute. Having said that there are also other coniditions which may lead to palpitations like thyroid problems, anemia etc. I advice you to see your family physician and get a complete physical examination done along with a baseline ecg and checking you CBC counts. All the best.
