Regarding Arrhythmia medicine stoppage

Dear Ask The Doctor:I am a 56 years old. I am overweight and had no health problems till about 8 years ago where i have tested for cholesterol and found that the LDL was in the end linit of the normal range but not higher yet. I am taking INEGY 10mg for it since then. In 2006 i have had arrhythmia and the doctors told me i have some problems in the electricity of the heart but there is no need for surgical intervention. They prescribed for me Cozaar 50mg for hypertension eventhough i don't have it and also prescribed Concor 5mg for the arrhythmia. I have been taking it since then. In 2008 i have performed a stress cardiac function test and a catherization procedure and both were perfectly normal. The doctor wanted to double the dose of concor to 10mg but i felt like it was not necessary. Everything was fine since then and had rare occasions of tachycardia but nothing serious. Now i stopped taking Concor since a week and i feel fine, i want to know about your opinion on the case and whether me stopping Concor might negatively affect me. Thanking You. Kind Regards

Dear Omar:Concor should not be stopped abruptly. This may lead to added pressure to the heart and may cause angina or your hypertension to reappear. The function of concor is to ease the activity of the heart so that there is less stress and less demand of oxygen to the heart muscles. It is important for you to consult your doctor before stopping or altering any drug.
