Burning pain in both knees with history of bilateral knee replacement

Dear Ask The Doctor: I had bilateral knees replacements. I had a fall and loosened the hardware in both knees and as a result, will have to have replacements again. I had a revision in the left knee, but it was not enough to correct it. I have pain in both knees chronically now and am experiencing burning. What is this from?
Dear Lyla: Most likely due to the fall, the movement of the fixation material and the scarred tissue after the operation, the sensitive nerves of the knee area are irritated, which is called Neuritis and producing the burning pain that you are describing. Once that the knee problems are corrected, this will tend to improve with time. |
