Thumb surgery

Dear Ask The Doctor: I have to have thumb surgery, cartlige is worn out at tha base of both thumbs I've been told it works real well, will I be able to use them like before,

Dear Donald: The purpose of the surgeical procedure is preserve function of the thumb while elimnating pain and discomfort. You should be able to use your fingers just the same as prior to surgery.
