Symptoms similar to Bipolar Disorder

Dear Ask The Doctor: Hello, I suffer from constant mood changed throughout the day. They are not excessively obvious but for instance: I can be very funny and positive with my friends, but suddenly my emotion drops and I become pessimistic, and get stressed easily with work. I have also noticed that I have stopped going out in the weekends, and avoided meeting with people, I have started to just keep myself company. Does this mean I am bipolar? Please help

Bipolar disorders are more common in families with similar positive history. Symptoms greatly overlap with those of emotional fluctuations and depression. Also a proper medical examination and tests are required to rule out the possibility of other conditions like epilepsy, thyroid disorder, brain injury, or any other physical health problems that can manifest bipolar symptoms. I suggest that you consult your family doctor, who may assess your symptoms and if required, refer you to a psychiatrist for a proper medical examination, diagnosis and treatment.
