Can parents pass Bipolar disorder on to their kids?

Dear Ask The Doctor: Can bipolar disorder be passed from a parent to their children .

Dear Clint: Bipolar disorder frequently occurs within families, and studies do show that children would be more likely to inherit bipolar disorder if either or both of their parents have it. If one parent has this disorder, the risk to their kid is about 25–30%, and if both parents have this disorder the risk may be as high as 65%.
