Male Urinary problem

Dear Ask The Doctor: Male Urinary problems Hi. 3 years ago I began taking a sprots supplement known as Norateen with the aim to increase muscle strength and size. The product was advertised as being safe and legal. After merely 3 days of use I began experiencing issues with the way I passed water, notably there was dribbling after I had finished urinating and a constant sense of irritation like I needed to go again. Also, I found that whilst out of a night having a few drinks I began urinating a lot more than I used to, and I do mean ALOT more. 6 times in an hour was probably what it had become. I obviously went and sought medical advice, being referred to a urologist where they performed urodynamic studies and flexible cystoscopy. To my dismay they said that it was merely a case of squeezing the 'bulbus' area of my urethra, the wider area where urine can accumulate, in order to remove any residual urine that may remain. So for the last three years I have been trying this procedure with absolutely no progress in condition and in fact the condition is steadily deteriorating. It is severely affecting my life in all areas: work, social, sport, relationships, sex etc. To be honest Im at my wits end with worry and I need some help. Please, can someone help?

Dear Tim: It is quite understandable that you are distressed by your symptoms. You problems seem to stem from a dysfunctional bladder. However, the cuase of the dysfunction is not clear. A number of conditions can cause bladder dysfunction, primarily conditions affecting the nerves that control movement of the bladder muscle. You need to seek asecond opinion from another urologist and if necessary repeat the tests you have done. Try to be patient as it may take time before a diagnosis is reached and treament commenced.
