Dear Ask The Doctor: I AM A 22 YEAR OLD MALE THAT BROKE MY FIBULA ON SEPT. 21 2009 I ENDED UP NEEDING TO HAVE SURGERY AND NOW I HAVE ONE PLATE, TWO PINS AND APHEW SCREWS IN MY LEG. I AM IN THE MILITARY AND HAVE BEEN DOING THE REHABE THAT I NEED TO, SO MY ? IS HOW LONG IS MY RECOVERY GOING TO BE AND WILL I EVER BE 100% AGAIN.
Dear David: When the open reduction of the fracture with plates and pins is correctly done, the patient followed a rehab program for 4-6 weeks, then he gets a progressive return to his daily living activities, and besides is a young patient, as in your case, you have a very good prognosis to reach again 100% function. It might take more or less time, the healing time is different for each patient in particular, but you have to continue with your exercises program until you reach your full potential. |
