Dear Ask The Doctor: How do you know when you have a broken foot? My daughter is 1 years old and well the leg of the chair got placed on the foot right below the middle to pinki toe. No one sat on the chair but the person who wasn't being careful kindof applied pressure, this person weighs about 240. Well right where the leg of the chair was on her foot it turned purple and i tried to apply ice. I elivated her foot and for about a good hour or so and then i noticed that the bruising went down, I don't think its swollen. She's a baby so she still has a fat foot. She's not limping, whinney. She can walk, run, curl her toes. So I was wondering if the part below her toes, not the toes, could posibly be broken?
Dear Nicole: It is unlikely that your daughter has broken any bones since there is no swelling and she is able to go about her normal physical activities such aas walking and running. Nevertheless, I suggest getting xrays of the injured area just be sure. Untreated broken bones may lead to stunted growth later on in life, so you should have her foot examined by a doctor and xrays done. |
