Leg Shortening Procedure

Dear Ask The Doctor: Ok it i do not have bone spurs but there is no category similar to what i am asking. i have one leg that is longer then the other i would like to shorten my bone of the longer leg but also in general for being a little tall would like to shorten my other leg too so i am a comfortable height. is this possible? will a surgeon please take my request and shorten both my legs?

Dear Adriana: Leg shortening is not a procedure which is normally done for cosmetic reasons. Nonetheless, if you desire such a procedure I am certain you will be able to find an orthopedic surgeon who is willing to to perform it. The procedure should not be undertaken until it is certain that you have completed the growth spurt associated with adolescence. He/she will also require a thorough medical history and perform a complete medical examination as well as xrays to ascertain why one leg in shorter than the other before going ahead with the procedure.
