Dear Ask The Doctor: I am curious to know if intercrainial hypertention can cause loss of bowl control i have been diagnosed with this but have recently been slowly losing bowl control and it's also more like water then any thing and this has been going on for 3 weeks so if you could help me out with this question it would be greatly appreciated thank you!!!
Dear Heather:I cannot find any evidence to suggest that benign intracranial hypertension (BIH) causes loss of bowel control or faecal incontinence. This new symptom of faecal incontinence warrants urgent investigation. If it is associated with loose or watery stool, it may be due to a simple gastrointestinal infection. It could also suggest a problem with the nerve supply to the rectum or back passage. I would advise seeking medical help urgently regarding this new complaint. |
