"No significant brain parenchymal lesions"

Dear Ask The Doctor: A recent brain MRI scan report quoted 'no siginificant focal parenchymal lesions' - and my doctor has told me that it means that the scan results are normal. However, I have cognitive impairment and for years I have experienced brief blackouts that only last a second and then they go - everything goes for a split second and my head feels 'sea sick' when it happens - therefore, I am concerned as to what these 'insignificant' findings are - should I pursue this further - or should I leave it - accepting what the doctor has said is normal.
Dear Caitlin: I concur with your doctor, the MRI report basically says that your Brain scan is normal, meaning no structural lesions were seen in the brain tissue, but you said that still have symptoms like blackouts, cognitive impairment, lightheadedness so I strongly recommend to get a consultation with a Neurologist and decide if you need some other kind of diagnostic procedures different than imaging (MRI) in order to determine the cause of your symptoms. |
