Huntington's disease misdiagnosed as pernicious anemia

Dear Ask The Doctor: My paternal grandmother's cause of death in 1933 was listed as pernicious anemia. I was wondering if that diagnosis could have been mistaken and should have been Huntington's disease instead. My sister has been diagnosed with Huntington's and I am trying to track this nasty gene down. My mother has tested negative for the gene; my father died at age 84 without showing any signs, but I am pretty sure the gene comes from his side of the family. Thanks for any insight you may have.
Dear Laura: The neurological symptoms of pernicious anemia may simulate the symptoms associated with Huntington’s disease and therefore there could be a possibility of misdiagnosis of the condition. You may also trace your grandmother’s family (that includes her parents and siblings but not their spouse) for further confirmation of your doubts. Hope this helps.
