Dear Ask The Doctor: Is it possible over time to do enough injury from hitting your head to cause mental illness. I am an aggressive worker who tends to not pay attention and get some large lumps on the head. After extensive mental work with Pshycologist and therapist i seem to be getting worse, yet noone will send me or except i may need a scan. This sounds far fetched even to myself, but we cant find a solution Dear John: It is highly unlikely that the concussions can cause mental illness which is usually caused due to chemical imbalance in the brain and neuronal circuits. I would suggest treating the pychiatric symptoms that you are having regardless. I hope this helps. All the best. |
