Dear Ask The Doctor: I had an episode of optic neuritis (retro-bulbar)back in late July. 3 day IV Solumedrol treatment relieved eye pain within a day. I am experiencing visual problems with glare in bright light especially florescent lighting. Computer screens are difficult viewing as well. What causes this glare situation and will it ever go away? Very frustrated, 3 months later...
Dear Jay: Optic neuritis is the inflammation of the optic nerve caused due to infections, autoimmune diseases, multiple sclerosis and toxicity to alcohol and certain drugs.
Most of the cases of optic neuritis, the vision returns to normal within 10-12 months, though there is chance that the vision may become worse. If you notice that your vision does not improve within the next month or becomes worse, or you develop pain in the eye, please consult your physician to see for recurrence. |
