Dear Ask The Doctor: Hello my mom is 47 years old and she has been dignose with IDC BREAST CANCER GRADE ONE does she need to remove her brest and does she need chimo therapy after that
Dear Bella: Stage one IDC means the tumour is confined to an area of the breast and there is no spread of the tumour cells to the nearby tissues or lymph nodes. At this stage removal of only the lump along with sample testing of the related surrounding lymph nodes for any spread, would be an option of choice for surgery, rather than removal of the whole breast. This surgery may be followed by chemotherapy if the results of the lymph node sampling come back positive for the tumour cells. However theĀ selection of the type of treatment is based on individual circumstances such as the location of the cancer in the breast, history of prior disease, any positive family history, general health condition, age etc. |
