Bronchial Infection

Dear Ask The Doctor: I have had a brocnchial infection for a week and someone told me if I would sit in a sauna for 20 min a day it would help. I have been on medication also but it seems like a slow process getting over this.

Dear Shirlene: Hello, I realize your worry for your possible Bronchial Infection. Since you are already taking medications that could help you breath better, it would also be recommended for you to get an evaluation of your current condition to rule out a possible bacterial infection of the Bronchi which would need medications, also due to your history of COPD and smoking a follow up might consult might be already necessary.

Surely humid air breathing could help you to inhale air and also expectorate if you have sputum production. But if the entity is bacterial, the only way to improve would be treating it with antibiotics. I wish you a prompt recovery.
