Trouble breathing and crackles: Could I have pneumonia?

Dear Ask The Doctor: Recently I have been suffering sleepless nights and hardly getting sleep at all, or when I do fall asleep I end up sleeping until mid afternoon, I was Ill in December 2010 all the way to January 2011, I thought it was just a very bad flu or cold, I had mucus on my lungs and a cought, Couldn't breathe properly at all, Headaches and chest pains, I dosed up on off the counter throat soothers and Beechams powders for a hot drink, all they did was sooth my throat not cure me, It is now March 2011 and I am still having trouble, I cannot get any sleep hardly due to a Crackling on my chest, back pain (sometime-I put this down to no rest, not the condition I may have?) I breathe out heavily and I can feel what I can only describe as my lung tubes vibrating as the air comes out, and I find it harder to breathe in than I do out...I have done some reading and came across someone similar and they had been diagnosed with Pneumonia,,is this what I have? should I visit a doctor or wait it out for another 3 months?

Dear Phil: From what you have explained you may have had a pneumonia back in December to Jan 2011. Since your symptoms are not getting better and you can hear crackling and have inspiration issues I would advice you to go see your doctor and take a chest xray to see what exactly is going on in the lungs. It may also be a bronchitis  hard to say or you may be having some leftover focus of infection in the lungs which will need treatment.  Hope you feel better soon.
