How to prevent bronchitis

Dear Ask The Doctor: What is the best cure for not getting bronchitis as I had it several times during the winter months and found myself having it again this Summer. It is so annoying as the green stuff keeps getting in my throat and making me cough.

The best way to prevent it is to drink lots of water, load up on citrus fruits (lime, lemon, orange) and juices. This will boost your immune system and prevent bronchitis. You should also inform your doctor about these episodes because ACE inhibitors, like Lisinopril, can also cause cough. However, its usually a non-productive (no phlegm) cough. ACE inhibitors are one of the best BP lowering drugs but one of its side effects is cough. Do not discontinue Lisinopril until you see your doctor. Nonetheless, you should still see your doctor as soon as possible because you might need antibiotics. I do hope this helps and take care always.
