Bruising after testicular surgery

Dear Ask The Doctor: Last thrusday I had surgery to fix a testicular torsion in my right testicle, during which they also operated on my left one to prevent another torsion in the future. It's now been 5 days and I've noticed some bruising over my left testicle(and only my left testicle), which is also hanging lower than my right one. Should I be worried? Has my left testicle come undone from whatever was done to stop it twisting in the future?

Dear Joe: If there is just bruising without any significant testicular pain it is unlikely to be anything to worry about. Bruising is a common occurrence after surgery as is some swelling. The bruising should resolve in a week or so. However, should the bruising and swelling appear to be getting worse and accompanied by pain you should return to your doctor immediately.
