Dear Ask The Doctor: Sunday I broke my right small toe. Followed internet directions to gauze and tape it to adjacent toe. Progressive swelling and bruising since across top of right foot, and ball of foot tender. My foot is getting increasingly more painful to walk on. Toe was completely free to move around and rotate when this happened (really no pain at first.) My questions is this: merely straightening the toe out and taping it was sufficient, or should I have it looked at to get it reduced? I don't want to waste a trip to doctor/urgent care that I can't afford. Thank you, Dennis
Dear Dennis: You should have your toe examined by a medical professional and have xrays done as well. There may be other injuries that you have missed. Your attempts to splint the toe do not seem to be enough and there is the possiblity that you may require more than just a simple splint. |
