Dear Ask The Doctor: My husband stepped on hot coals from a grill and he has a hard blister on the bottom of his foot what should i do
Dear Lisa: The area should be cleaned thoroughly with a suitable disinfectant/antiseptic solution. The blister should then be ruptured with a sterile, sharp instrument and the skin removed. The open wound should then be dressed with a clean bandage. An antibiotic oinment can be placed on the wound before the dressing is applied. The dressing should be changed daily and the wound monitored for any signs of infection such as foul-smelling discharge from the wound, swelling, fever or increased pain. If any of these ssymptoms develop, seek a physicans help immediately. |
