Skin graft infection after a year?

Dear Ask The Doctor: My husband has a skin graph on his foot that was done over a year ago. Suddenly, the graph has started bleeding and leaking a yellow liquid in one spot, what is this and is it infected?

Dear Danielle: It is unusual to develop complications so long after surgery. Nonetheless, it is possible for the graft to become infected. The symptoms you describe certainly suggest an infection. Your husband needs to see his physician to confirm the diagnosis and begin the appropriate treatment.
