Bilateral Trochanteric Bursa Surgery

Dear Ask The Doctor: I am scheduled to have my tronchanteric bursas removed on my left and right leg at the same surgery. My surgeon didn't seem to think this would be a problem to recover from but after researching this surgery and recovery, I'm wondering if it wouldn't be a better idea to have two separate surgeries. What do you think? The Doctor originally suggested two surgeries, I asked if I could just do them both at one time so I only have to go through the pain (and cost) once.
Dear Cathy: As with any surgical procedure the risks increase as the time the patient spends on the operating table increases. The proposed procedure by your surgeon is relatively short. There should be no problem in you undergoing both procedures at the same time. Of course, the recovery will be longer than if you did one procedure. |
