Dear Ask The Doctor: JUST BEEN RELEASED FROM HOSPITAL AFTER 1 WEEK OF IV ANTIBIOTICS FOR BURSITUS/CELLULITUS AND AM HOME ON ORAL ANTIBIOTICS. LEG IS ONLY 10% SWOLLEN OF ORIGINAL PEAK SWELLING. The original swelling was on the entire leg from knee down to foot. THE QUESTION IS WOULD IT BE OK TO TRAVEL BY AIR FOR A 2 1/2 HOUR FLIGHT?
Dear Dan:
I understand your worry about flying post cellulitis treatment. In my opinion and after reading your description it looks like the infection is remitting with good prognosis, certainly it would be better to recover completely from the infection but if you can’t postpone your flight, I would suggest you to take and comply with the rest of your antibiotics, try not to expose your compromised leg with any surface and wash your hands and use hand sanitizer frequently. If you have circulation problems you should consult your physician first for a more detailed evaluation. I wish you the best. |
