Dear Ask The Doctor: I had a prepatellar bursae diagnosed by MRI for 3 weeks on medical TTT delayed after one week from onset.minimal pain since its onset,no redness or hotness. What happen if i refused drainage or injection?may it subsude totally or will remain
Dear Heba: Most likely a small liquid collection in your prepatellar bursa may resolve spontaneously, but in the case that the amount of liquid increases producing pain or limitation in the movements at this point may require drainage to release the pressure in the intrarticular space. The prepatellar bursa is a superficial bursa with a thin synovial lining located between the skin and the patella. Normally, it does not communicate with the joint space and contains a minimal amount of fluid; however, inflammation of the prepatellar bursa results in marked increase of fluid within its space. The recommended treatment would be: after the initial period of rest, physical therapy is started to regain any loss of Range Of Movements, while increasing the flexibility and strength of the quadriceps and hamstrings. It is important the avoidance of kneeling, and use of kneepads if kneeling is necessary. |
