I'm thirteen, and I think I might have cancer. |

Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi. Umm. I'm thirteen, female, obese. I've been having constipation for a while now. Maybe since last week? I just can't let it all out in the mornings like how I used to, unless I drink a cup of coffee or tea. Then I wouldn't have to go to the comfort room for the rest of the day unless I need to pee. Then, for some reason, I thought that I might have cancer. I checked up the net for symptoms of COLON CANCER. But, no, I don't have, fortunately. Then I checked up OVARIAN CANCER and I have most of the symptoms. - constipation - pressure in the abdomen - bloating of abdomen (I just feel like it's getting bigger) I'm worried. Dear Sarah: I do understand that you are concerned due to the symptoms you are experiencing and what you have read on the internet. I would like you tell you that it is highly unlikely that you have ovarian cancer. The usual age when a patient is diagnosed with ovarian cancer is around 57 years. Though you have not mentioned whether there is a family history of ovarian cancer, I would presume that there is none. The chances of developing ovarian cancer doubles when there is a member in the family who has the ovarian cancer. Your symptoms have developed to quickly for it to be cancer. I would definitely suggest that you make certain lifestyle changes that will help you minimize your symptoms. Taking food with plenty of fibres, vegetable, adequate hydration and exercise will not only help your constipation but will even help you to lose weight. I wish you well, take care.
