Dear Ask The Doctor: I have pain in my right lower abdominal from 1 year ,and also pain in my back and testicles also.doctor told me for a ultrasound of abdominal and testicles ,but nothing found ,now i am worry about this pain ,and having a black stool also.
Dear Jitendra:The presence of a black tarry foul smelling stool may indicate bleeding from the upper gastrointestinal tract. In addition to abdominal pain this can be secondary to peptic ulceration and bleeding. Black stools can also be secondary to a medication side-effect, such as iron supplements or Pepto-Bismol® (Bismuth) may lead to the occurrence of grayish, black stools. I would advise attending your family doctor for a full blood count examination to check your Haemoglobin level, and an urgent referral to a gastroenterologist for an endoscopy, which allows visualization of the upper gastrointestinal tract through a camera lens and identification of any peptic ulceration. |
