Clot in Scrotum after Tesicle Removal

Dear Ask The Doctor: My son has just had a surgery and one testicle has been removed. He has just undergone chemo therapy successfully using BEP. Now it has been found that his tumour markers are 1.2 and 1.5 and his CT scan is clear. But the problem is that he has got blood clotting in the scrotum where the testicle has been removed. He is taking Chymoral forte but if the blood clot does not go he will have to undergo a minor surgery. Your advice please. He is 17 years old.
Dear Hafiz: It is not uncommon to have clot formation after any surgical procedure. More often than not the clot resolves on its own without any further medical intervention. Chymoral forte is a medication designed to increase the liklihood of resolution. Most clots show some signs of resolution within 5-7 days. If there are no signs of resolution or there are signs of an infection developing such as increasing pain, fever or foul-smelling discharge from the wound then a simple surgical procedure will be required to evacuate the clot. This is achieved via small incision in the scrotum. No hospitalization is required and recovery time will be short. |
