Repeating lung ct scan |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: App 2 yrs ago i had a ct scan of the lungs and they found several nodules on both lungs, being a smoker the scan was repeated every 3-6months for almost 2 yrs. I believe i am to have one more. Since the first one no change. I am constantley worried as now i have no insurance and can not afford another scan. Would there have been some change in size if there was something to be real concerned about? thank you so much for your responce.. Mary Dear Mary: I would definitely suggest you to have a new CT scan or a simple x ray to compare it with the previous ones. Whenever a nodule is found in a patient who has certain types of risk factors like smoking, it is mandatory to have a follow up every 6 months to a year to evaluate for changes in size, position and shape of the nodules. This could quickly detect any change that might need to be studied later for possible benign or malignant cancer. I wish you the best. |
