Dear Ask The Doctor: I have bone cancer history,i have recently completed my treatment therefore i had undergone PET scan whole body (non contrast).the final result states that no abnormal FDG uptake seen to suggest any recurrent or residual disease. However there is a less important line (it is not in bold letters) which says "There is a focal area of increased FDG uptake noted in the upper metadiaphysis of the left humerus corresponds to physiological area of marrow conversion."what does this mean? Do I have disease in my left arm too or is it the start of the disease? please explain!
Dear Himanshu: You DO NOT have disease in your left arm. The increased uptake noted in your left humerus was due to a normal process occurring in your body and not as a result of cancer. There is no need for concern at this time. |
