Dear Ask The Doctor: I've had dizziness lately and its different than what I've experienced before. I can feel it when I move my head or even when I'm standing still, however it doesn't happen all the time. I had a cold a couple months ago and I also got moved to a new location at my work. I work at a smog test center. And the dizziness well its a little hard to explain, I can walk fine but my balance is off a little as I can notice since I skateboard frequently. Sometimes I'm fine and I don't have any dizziness or vertigo or whatever it is. After resting some I've felt better lately but in the past couple weeks it hasn't helped. It also feels like its taking longer to get over the cold or flu I have. I've taken pain relievers such as advil and aleve, and I've also taken motion sickness pills to help also. I've tried to clean my ears out with an irrigation kit because I known my ears get lots of wax build up and will plug up my ears sometimes and especially if I ever go swimming. My father also had lots of build up too in his ears. I really just want to know if this is going to go away or if i need to have myself checked out. I do not have health insurance right now and really need to know if I have to go in or if there's something else I can do about it. This makes my life tougher, I operate vehicles and equipment daily and also participate in activities such as skateboarding so I cant have this dizziness while I'm doing any of these things. If you can back to me asap that would be really appreciated. Thank you for your time.
Dear Eric: With a positive family history for brain cancer and leukemia, your risk for getting the disease condition is high. Based on the description of your symptoms, it would be best to get yourself examined by your GP, and if necessary, reference to a specialist doctor may help with further diagnosis.
