Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi my name is Maya, And when i was five years old i was diagnosed with leukemia and treatments stopped when i was seven in half and i am now 22 and i have been in remission ever since :) .... So my question is can i still get pregnant even though i had leukemia?
Dear Maya:
It will depend on what kind of leukemia you had and the kind of treatment you went through. Most drugs used to treat leukemia can affect fertility. There is a ~40-50% chance you will have difficulty conceiving, but then again, it will depend on the regimen used, the dose and the duration of the treatment. You can ask your doctor what kind of regimen was used that time. I do hope I have appeased your concern and take care always. |
