I am postmenopausal and have very minimal vaginal bleeding. Can I ignore this?

Dear Ask The Doctor: I am 68years old, Went through the menopause when I was 49years old. I now have slight vaginal bleeding. Especially first thing in the morning

Dear Pauline: Any postmenopausal bleeding (bleeding > 1 year after menopause) should be investigated to rule out cancer. I would strongly suggest you see an OB-Gyne as soon as possible so tests can be done right away. The most common cause of postmenopausal bleeding is atrophic vaginitis. However, endometrial (uterine) cancer should be ruled out first before anything else that is why you need to see your OB-Gyne because biopsy may be needed. I do hope I have answered your question and take care always.
