Dear Ask The Doctor: I had carpal tunnel surgery, both wrists,(not evne sure that was the problem) but I have bad numbness and tingling in both hands in the last 2 fingers(ulnar nerve) I f I tap on the funny bone, its 'pops' and gets numb,my question is,injection did not work, its tough to sleep,I read permanent damge can happen ,like muscle wasting and loss of grip..how long can I go before surgery? and will it be the same again ? seems I read many horror stories on line ?
Dear Benny: Your symprotms are tha of Cubital Tunnel Syndrome. This is entrapment of the ulnar nerve at the elbow. If you have already tried conservative management and this has not worked then surgery is the next option. Surgery is usually succesfull at reelieving the symptoms and allowing you to return to normal activities |
