Dear Ask The Doctor: I get a continual feeling of pins and needles in my left arm, especially the left hand....Why ?
Dear Shaun: Your symptoms maybe due to cervical spondylosis or carpal tunnel syndrome. Cervical spondylosis usually occurs when the disc space between your cervical ( neck) vertebra narrows and leads to nerve impingement ie pressure on the nerves which supply the upper arm thus leading to pins and needles. However since you say that these symptoms are more pronounced in your left hand it could also be carpal tunnel syndrome which occurs due to the impingement of the nerves in the area of the wrist. Usually this has been seem more frequently in patients who use the computer a lot and do a lot of typing due to the compression of the structures while typing where your hands are a in specific position. Having said that there also may be other serious causes like a stoke if accompanied with other symptoms like slurred speech ,visual problems etc.
You would need to see your GP for a more specific investigation and futher tests. |
