Can gluten proteins be exchanged through a kiss?

Dear Ask The Doctor: I just started dating a girl who has coeliac disease. If I ingest a food product containing gluten, and then kiss her later, will she become ill? Would it be best if I go on a gluten-free diet just as she does? What do I do?

Dear Ryan: I can understand why you would be concerned. However, gluten type proteins can NOT be transmitted through bodily fluids and there should be NO need to adjust your diet in this case.
