Can Immunity against Chicken pox be transferred to your child?

Dear Ask The Doctor: Does the body have immunity from chicken pox if you have acquired the disease. If so can you pass that immunity on to your chidren like inherited immunity, where the body is resistant to the disease.

Dear Alma: Chicken pox is a highly contagious disease caused by varicella zoster virus. Once you have acquired chicken pox, the body develops immunity against the infection. Your immunity cannot be transferred to your child and varicella vaccination will ensure the development of immunity against chicken pox in your child.
